The Kenya Wildlife Service has pushed back against claims by environmental groups that approximately 100 acres of upland forest within Nairobi National Park is under threat of destruction.

Environmental activists had raised alarms on social media, sharing images they said showed encroachment and tree felling along the park’s northern boundary.

KWS Director General Erustus Kanga dismissed the allegations as “misleading and factually inaccurate,” stating that the activities were part of a controlled invasive species removal programme approved by NEMA.

“What was captured on camera is routine ecological management — the removal of invasive lantana camara plants that threaten indigenous vegetation,” Kanga explained. He invited concerned citizens to visit the park and see the conservation work firsthand.
