The ambitious Bomas of Kenya convention complex project is set to cost taxpayers Sh42 billion, the National Assembly Tourism Committee has revealed, as construction proceeds under significant time pressure.

The complex is designed to position Kenya as a premier meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) destination in Africa.

Committee Chairperson Kareke Mbiuki expressed concerns about the timeline. “We need assurance that this project will be delivered to specification. Kenyans cannot afford another white elephant,” he cautioned.

When completed, the convention centre will feature a 10,000-seat auditorium, exhibition halls, and luxury hospitality facilities. Tourism CS Rebecca Miano argued the complex could generate over Sh15 billion annually in conference tourism revenue.
