Kenya’s women’s rugby sevens team, the Lionesses, are targeting crucial victories in Sao Paulo as they fight to keep their playoff hopes alive in the SVNS series.
Head coach Felix Oloo believes his squad has the quality to spring surprises. “We have worked on our set pieces and defensive structure. The team is fitter and more tactically aware than at any point this season,” Oloo said.
Key to Kenya’s chances will be captain Philadelphia Olando and explosive winger Sheila Chajay, whose pace has troubled defences throughout the series.
A strong showing could secure the Lionesses’ position in next season’s core team lineup, avoiding the relegation playoffs. Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Oduor Gangla emphasised the importance of the tournament for the women’s programme.
