Kenya’s rugby sevens team opened their Sao Paulo tournament campaign in emphatic fashion, dispatching Germany with a commanding performance that signalled Shujaa’s intent to secure crucial playoff positioning.
The victory was built on blistering pace and clinical finishing, with Captain Vincent Onyala leading from the front with two tries, while Daniel Taabu terrorised the German defence with his trademark sidestep.
Head coach Damian McGrath praised the team’s preparation. “We knew Germany would be physical, but our boys were ready. The speed and execution in the first half was exactly what we worked on in training,” he said.
The result is vital for Kenya’s standing in the SVNS series as the team battles to maintain core status for next season. Shujaa face tougher tests against Argentina and South Africa in the pool stages.
